Diving is also technology

Even though I went from mobile phone making to diving, technology is still important. And you can gadgets of any kind; and recently even in any colour :-).

Today I received my new Dive Watch, a Suunto D4. If diving 3 or more dives a day it is basically impossible without a dive computer. If you use the tables which you are trained in when becoming a diver, you will totally enter the ‘red field’ even after the first dive. The trick with a dive computer is that it all the time monitors the current depth and it hence ‘compensates’ for the often big part of a dive where you are on a less deep level than the maximum depth. When using tables you usually ‘assume’ that you have been on the deepest depth all the time during the dive, and therefore the table will tell that you are far into the danger zone. So far I have dived on e.g. the Dive Masters computers to be able to at all dive as much as I have. Unfortunately no dive computers yet have GPS since GPS doesn’t work under water, but if someone invented a way to know your position under water it would be worth a lot of money! :-). A compass may work with little current, but not in strong current as I realized the other day :-)
