Yesterday I started getting some hurting in throat and today I have a running nose. Probably a left over from the other days Songkran where I was wet for 18 hours in a row, or from germs in the totally overfilled swimming pool that we raided? :-). Anyway, a cold means no diving because it means you can get problems equalizing due to blocked air-ways. 4-5 of my colleagues have the same 'stuff' these days, so at least I am not alone in blowing my nose every 1 minute :-). But I have now booked my trip to Malaysia; I ended up deciding to fly instead of a very long train ride, it is 'only' double price++ but that is still not that much down here. Busses are dirt cheap, trains are cheap, and flights are very reasonable. The main reason for choosing flying was not the long train ride (even here you can book very luxurious compartments for a cheap price), but due to the tricky border issue; at the end station in Thailand, you need to first find a taxi to the border, then walk over a river bridge (which IS the border), then find another taxi for around 1 hour etc. And keep in mind that all this needs to be done with all my stuff (which now also includes a load of dive equipment). And this is in the most unsecure area of Thailand also (where there have been bomps etc due to the conflict between the Muslim Thai people and the Buddhists). I just felt flying is so much more comfortable :-). On the way, I will take a luxury night stay on Koh Samui (where I fly from). Now I have been living in a very basic bungalow for 2+ months, so I felt that one day of luxury at Koh Samui could do me well. Swimming pool, Spa, I look forward :-).
My schedule is that I leave Koh Tao on the 22nd of April, and since I take a luxury stay-over etc, I will then be arriving at Pertentian Islands on the 24th. I am going to become an instructor at a place called "Flora Bay" (link), and I look forward to some 'climate change' (but no temperature change :-). It is great here at Koh Tao, but after 2+ months I feel I need to see some other dive sites, try some different atmosphere, new food etc. And I can always come back to Koh Tao after ending my instructor course if I really miss it :-).
My next destinationis Perhentian Island which you can see on the map.
