Yesterday I arrived back on Koh Tao, but I am still having a small cold which I caught in Denmark, so diving must wait a day or two. At this time of year, Koh Tao is very warm, with occasional showers (but very rare). Instead of diving, I am using some time to find out what to do next. I have 'finished' my book, even though I am sure that the real work with a publisher will start soon ;o), so I am now trying to work a bit on freelance work, contract work or even permanent job in South-East Asia - or elsewhere in Asia.
As you may remember (or can read a bit further down in my blog), I left Koh Tao during a 'deluge' where I was evacuated with Helicopter, Navy carrier etc. And this flood has given some changes to the island. My favourite dive shop, Big Blue, was totally flooded, so when coming back everything looks a bit different. But they managed to rebuild everything. Many houses are now being removed, and hopefully replaced with more flood proof houses. The right solution - to create much better drainage - seems not to be a solutions, since it would require a number of resorts and dive centres to co-operate - also about the funding. This is not happening. Instead every resort try to protect their resort better by creating flood barriers - which simply leaves the next resort with an even bigger problem - and more water. Stupidity exist everywhere in the world ;o)
The photos are from the refurbished Koh Tao, as well as a single photo of a funny sign inside a taxi in Bangkok ;o). And some photos from the (pretty deserted!) beach on Koh Tao. There are still people on Koh Tao, but not as many as during high season. I also believe that the previous flooding and storms have been a factor. The missing tourist has given me a smaller price on accommendation, so not too bad ;o)
