Diving high…

Finally, my Diving Odyssey got started; by skiing in the Bulgarian mountains. A great week with seven close friends, where we experienced the surprisingly good skiing that Bansko offers. We had a number of great days with sunshine and perfect skiing. And a few days with snowfall which especially my few deep-snow loving friends enjoyed.

A funny incident was one day when we were enjoying a well deserved beer at a small restaurant located at the top of a chair lift. Suddenly the alarms of the lift started, and the lift slowed down. We through that someone had an accident and were now being transported with the lift. So we were expecting a person with broken legs or similar to appear. But no: When the chair came slowly up, we realized why the lift was stopping. Up came five boxes of beer placed on the chair lift – delivery for the small restaurant at the top :-)

Another brilliant thing about Bulgaria is the price level. On hotels, ski rental and skiing teacher (which was all included in the price). And not least the price level of food and drinks is worth mentioning. Comparing the price level of food with the amount of food – or rather meat – you get when ordering a dinner in a ‘Mehana’ is even more extreme. Mehana is the (Latin) word for a restaurant is called in Bulgaria. They serve dished up to 2 kilograms, and 1 kilogram dishes seem relatively normal. And believe me, very little of the dish is garnish! Even the most hungry of my friends gave up around half way through the dishes.

And the after skiing was also great in Bulgaria; and at absolutely reasonable prices; which is difficult to find when going skiing in the Alps.
But most of all the skiing trip was a perfect way to spend great time with my friends. And a good way to say ‘goodbye’ – at least until August where I plan to come by Denmark for a week or two.

  1. I heard the meaty tales of meat from my -now sleeping - husband. It sounded like, "What kind of meat would you like with your meat". But then he was delirious with fever, so I thought he was joking. Looking forward to follow your adventures. And give a hug to Marianne from me tomorrow.
