Today, I went through all 12 chapters and the 14 reviews with my mentor, Sonia (link). Around 300 questions from the Dive COn manual was reviewed. And afterwards I chose to try the exam while the material was still freshly present in my head :-). The test was 100 multiple choice questions, all from relatively simple things to long calculations of e.g. how large an air-filled balloon is when going from surface to 30 meters depth. I scored 95% (I even found 2 errors in the test - one which my mentor didn't know about even :-). So, now the theory part is basically done; one month after arriving to Thailand (but first week I was taking other courses, and I have also been sick for around 4 days).
However, I still miss a number of practical things (assisting more courses etc), as well as more 'teaching sessions'; in classroom and in water.
Two days ago we had various swim-tests; like floating for 15 minutes (last 2 minutes with hands above head), towing another diver for 200 meters and 800 meter snorkel swim (with fins). Surprisingly I was the fastest swimmer of all of the around 8 people doing the snorkel swim. Before the test, I was so sure to come in last. I mean, the others were all in quite good shape and are around 15-20 years younger than me :-). But good to know that my swimming skills are ok. Now I am just missing the 400 meter 'free swim', but I already have almost enough grades from the other swim tests, so I don't need to stress to much for the last swim test to pass :-).
The photo shows yesterday's sunset and how some of the people (living) on the boats sometimes transport themselves (and their dogs).
