There is a Danish hotel called The Stable Lodge near Sukhumvit road in Bangkok (Soi8) which serves danish sandwiches and everything you may desire if you miss Denmark or Scandinavia a little bit ;o)
Today I worked as a translator for an Irish person in a restaurant. He wanted Blakuju on top of his Guiness beer. 4 waiters were trying to understand what he was saying ;o). I also did not understand it in the beginning, until I asked him to speak slower (and less Irish ;o). He wanted Black currant juice on top (I did not even know this potential Irish variant of a Guinness so it was NOT easy ;o).
Anyway, they also did not understand my 'more English' version of the pronunciation - or maybe they did not have (you never really know in Thailand ;o), so he had to drink his Guinness without any juice ;o).
This proves to me that sometimes 'English' speaking persons can be the hardest to understand, especially if the dialect is too bad - and if the person insists on using his dialect 100% when traveling. When travelling in Thailand you have to reduce your vocabulary. You do not say "Excuse me, may I please ask for another Coke". Instead you simple say "Coke, please" (or Coke Mekhap if you have learned how to say thank you in Thai). Additional phrases from English and additional words may just confuse. Any dialect will make any Thai go cold. But if you go back to your English from 4th year at primary school, you may do perfect here ;o). There is no marvelous here, there is very good. There is no tremendous here, there is only very-very. And so forth.
Tomorrow I will go to Beijing again... Early morning. It is a 5 hour flight from Bangkok to Beijing, and I will be flying with Thai Air.
