I went to the north of Bangkok, and the situations is really really bad still. Water from the river - combined with garbage and all the sewer you can imagine is combined into one big ' pot'. I visited a home where they are trying to clean up. Very bad. The water has been inside up to 60 cm. And the water is still - one month later - at a height of 60 cm right outside the house.
As always, the Thai people seem to be calm. There are big trucks working as buses since normal buses cannot go through the water. The life is going on, and even the street restaurants still seem to find a way to keep open.
This flooding is covering an area of the size of Copenhagen! It affects 5+ millions of people who have left their home or who have found room with friends or family - or who have stayed in their flooded home.
I am so amazed by the Thai people. Yes, the flooding would maybe have been prevented in many other countries (by a much more serious contribution from the government and the military). But in the true Thai spirit, most things still seem to work. Based on the personal initiative. Amazing. There are special taxis getting you to flooded places, even though you may need to change taxi from time to time (my journey today to 20 km north of Bangkok took me 3 hours - one way, with 6 different vehicles: taxi, bus, truck, 4-wheel drive car, minibus, motorbike and walking....).
Todays trip took me in total 8 hours....
The photos are from this trip. The trip also took me along the second largest airport of Bangkok (the old international airport, Don Muang), which is TOTALLY flooded. I saw around 10 airplanes on the run-way or at the terminal totally flooded! The entire runway, the terminal and everything is flooded!
